Hajime Kinoko is renowned worldwide for his rich rope-bondage vocabulary. In addition to traditional Japanese kinbaku, he explores new frontiers, including a series of red-rope artworks that entered the art world, as well as pioneering the use of fluorescent rope in his “cyber rope” creations. Beyond live bondage performances, he has also published photo and video works, taking on the roles of photographer and director. He has led workshops in more than 20 major cities around the world, including Paris, London, and Munich.
For him, what he treasures most about bondage is connection. Tying someone is like creating a string telephone between two people—a channel of communication. With a focused heart, one can sense how the other wishes to be tied, where, and at what pace, responding to those expectations. His ropes are like waves carved into stone cliffs, a natural creation that exists only between him and the bound partner. This is the beauty of rope bondage as he understands and pursues it.
